I was worried about making a rainbow portrait of my dog Chika. But I thought I should jump in and embrace my new mantra for this year , “but what if it’s great?!” The video classes are great: just enough content to keep me interested and learning without overwhelming me. I jumped in and did a painting; first round was ok but when I tried to add an additional layer, I screwed it up. Still posted it and asked for some constructive suggestions. The members delivered! I recently took a painting class focused on creating a portrait of my dog, and overall, it was a rewarding experience. The class was both enjoyable and incredibly challenging — in the best way possible. While the instructions were clear the actual execution pushed me out of my comfort zone and really tested me. One of the biggest takeaways for me was learning how to work with color, values, and tones. I gained a much deeper understanding of how to use light and dark to create depth and emotion in a painting. I have only completed lesson 5 and have a long way to go.
